August 1, 1949 - February 8, 2018

Schmadel, David L., 68, Windber, died peacefully at home February 8, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. His will for living never diminished and he did everything asked of him in battling his illness. Born August 1, 1949 in Johnstown. Son of the late Jacob J. and Margaret J. (Chromy) Schmadel. Preceded in death by parents; and in-laws, Irvin and Pauline (Weaver) Bowser. Survived by wife of 41 years, Susan (Bowser); son, David, Windber; daughter, Jennifer married to Ron Mash, Windber; grandchildren whom he thought the world of, Cole, Cameron, and Regan; siblings, Jake married to Pam, Dan, and Jeannie married to Jerry Schirato; in-laws, Jim and Leona Bowser, Joyce and Ray Baumgardner, Gay and Joe Sepp, Lola and Ed Damico, Barb and Steve Weaver, and Becky and Jerry Vogel; and special cousins, Rich and Patty Rummel. David served in the Navy and was a coal miner for 15 years at Florence Mining Co. and Bethlehem Mine 78. He retired from Hoganas as a steelworker after 27 years of service. David was a member of UMWA 6410 and the VFW Post 155. David’s passions in life, besides his family, was riding his Harley, going fishing, watching the Pirates play either on TV or at the stadium, and mowing his yard. You could always count on David to make you laugh. We want to thank our family and friends who kept us in their prayers and for being there for support. A special thanks to Dr. Awan’s office, Dr. Stefanik’s office, and all their employees for making David’s illness bearable. Another thank you, to everyone involved with Hospice. At the request of David, there will be no viewing. Family and friends will be received Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Simple Alternatives, Inc., 717 Main St., Windber, PA 15963. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony’s of Padua. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
