Catherine “Cathy” Winchester

March 28, 1937 - March 1, 2023

Catherine (Mercer) (DeGrange) (Stevens) Winchester “Cathy”, 85, was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed from this world on March 1, 2023, at Windber Hospice in Windber, Pa. Cathy went to see the lord peacefully while comforted by her loving son and daughter-in-law. Cathy was born to William and Dorothy Mercer on March 28, 1937, in Millville, WV. She is survived by son, Lee DeGrange and wife Kelley of Johnstown, Pa.; grandchildren, Austin and Kolby DeGrange of Johnstown, Pa.; special friend, Charlie Ling of Johnstown, Pa.; brother, William Mercer and wife Gertrude of Silver Spring, Md; sister, Doris VanTol of Jackson, TN; nieces and nephews, Robert and Susan VanTol of Jackson, TN; Linda VanTol of Madison WI; Geoff Mercer of Bedford, PA; great nephews, Steven Sarff of Madison, WI; Isaac Mercer of Bedford, PA; great niece, Melissa Mercer Poland of Rosedale, Md; and two great great nephews. Cathy attended Millville Elementary School in Millville, W.V., Harpers Ferry High School and graduated from Charlestown High in Charlestown WV. She then attended and graduated from Shephard College in Shepherdstown, WV. Cathy taught at Jefferson Elementary School and later at New Market Elementary School in the Frederick County, Md school system. She later retired from The Way Station, a psych school and training center for the mentally challenged in Frederick County, MD. Cathy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, painting, sketching, drawing, and many other special projects. Special thank you to Charlie Ling for making Cathy’s last few years full of love and happiness. The family would also like to thank Windber Hospice for all their compassionate care. Family will receive friends Monday March 6th from 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. at Simple Alternatives, Inc., 717 Main St., Windber. Committal and interment to be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery. Donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to Windber Hospice. Arrangements in care of Simple Alternatives, Inc.
