Obituary
It’s with heavy hearts that the family of Delores (Dee) Ann Lonsinger has announced her passing on January 15th, 2025, comfortably at home with her family. She was born in Windber on May 16th, 1940, to Anna Pearl (Patterson) and John T. (Jack) Way. She grew up in Cambria City and loved to reminisce about roller skating at Roseland as a teenager, working at Top’s Grab & Go as a soda jerk, and her special dog, Snooks. On June 14th, 1958, she married Donald Gene Lonsinger and started her family. She was a wonderful stay at home mom and was a selfless caretaker for her mother for 7 years following a debilitating stroke. Both her parents and husband have predeceased her, and she was also the last surviving sibling in her family. Going before her were her brothers Richard (Dick), Thomas Waye, Harry, and William (Bill). She loved telling the story of her brother Harry hiding peas in her mashed potatoes! Left here to cherish her memory and keep her recipes and cats, Baby, Buddy, and Oliver alive are her children, Linda (Tom) Gray, Peggy (John) Mathieson, Donna (Larry) Shaw, and Bruce (Valerie) Lonsinger. Grandchildren Erin, Dalen (Ashley, and her children, Noah and Aubrey), Courtney, Branden (Ashley), Brianne (Zac), Corey, Darius (Michelle), and Christopher, and great-grandchildren, Allie (Nathan), Macie, Mila and Ariana. Also, special neighbors who are considered family, Roy and Dawn Hockey. Dee loved all animals and gave a home to many in her lifetime. She was a wonderful cook and could whip up a meal for an army at a moment’s notice. Her kitchen was the gathering place for the holidays, and many memories were made there! She was a long-time member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren where she volunteered with funeral dinners, and at the Church of the Brethren Home doing hair for the residents. Mom was ready to leave this world for a long time and knowing that she’s reunited with her mom and pets gives us comfort. We would like to thank the staff at Windber Hospice and her neighbors for helping mom over the years, especially after dad passed away. Mom loved visits with her nurse Abbi Evans, and social worker Dave Calovi, who we have also come to consider family. There will be no viewing or services at Dee’s request. Donations can be made to the Cambria County Humane Society or Windber Hospice in her memory. Arrangements in care of Simple Alternatives, Inc. Affordable Cremation & Sensible Funeral Care. Condolences may be made at SimpleAlternativeCares.com.
